Perfectly Symmetrical.

Symmetry can be found all around us at all times; it can be fleetingly noticed in man-made architecture, or gazed at with wonder in nature, upon the wings of a butterfly. Noticed or not, symmetry can and is used as a subject in photography often as it can create beautiful and incredicle imagery. Thus, this weekend’s focus will be symmetry.

Long Exposure Luminosity

This weeks focus is on taking advantage of long exposure, and nighttime lighting. Some of the most unique can come from photographing stylized neon signs. Another iPad app, this one allows editing on a whole different level (cropping, fill, rotation, filter) shows what the iPad is on the cusp of as far as digital editing can do. Now if Adobe will wake up and do Photoshop for the iPad.

I happened upon Steve’s work after checking out the PetaPixel article above. His work is great. I sat for  a half hour going through his work, his attention to grabbing the reality of people and conveying that put a smile on my face. The color in his work is truly phenomenal, going to the ends of the earth to capture people in their own environment and documenting it for us to see.

In what turned out to be one of the most controversial posts this week, the guys at Fstoppers.com posted a vid of a Fashion Shoot shot on an iPhone. The controversy cropped up when the behind the scenes video showed them using lots of light and sending the photos off to a post-production house for touch-up. I think they did great for what they had, and that the controversy was just plain crazy. A lot of photographers (especially in the Fashion industry) now a days use post processing of some sort. App of the Week: FlickStackr for iPad, iPod & iPhone

A great little program for both iPad and iPhone that allow you to access your complete FLickr account, and your contacts, plus allows browsing of groups/pools. The app is jammed with super nice features, but as a photog, I like having the ability to whip out my photos anywhere, and this app allows me to complete that task.

Diptic App for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch

A little gem, that with some more work and time can be a great app. In short it allows you to combine multiple photos create Diptychs, Triptychs directly from your iPhone, or iPad

Waking up.

Waking up when I do not need to be up is the best feeling ever; I love to just hover between the dream world and reality while lying in my cosy bed with the sun gently shining through my curtains on to my back, or listening to the steady drip of rain. Weekend Photo Find is a weekly series, each Friday we will post a Weekend Photo Focus (also hash tagged on Twitter as #weekendphotofocus) on a certain subject, something to spark your creativity. An empty weekend for a photographer, is like an empty canvas, we could always use something to do when we have nothing planned right? So with this in mind we created this series, one that will get you out doing what you love. The premise is simple: snap some photos over the weekend dealing with the weekends focus, and if you send them to us, or Tweet them to us, we will post them for others to see. Having a focus will help us as artists & photographers see things that we might not always see, make us take a shot at something we might otherwise have not. In seeing other photogs chase after the same focus, it can only breed even more creativity in our own work.

At the weekends close, we will follow up our weekend focus, with what we found on Flickr (including some of the photos from you) that falls in line with our focus. We hope you join in the fun and help us spread the creativity. If you have any ideas for future Photo Focuses lets us know, we’ll give you credit!

This weekend’s focus:

The Seasons.

As of late, the weather here in normally dreary England has gone from the familiar cold and grey rainy days, to scorching hot and summery. As a result of my anticipation for summer to fully arrive, today’s focus is on seasons. Whatever season it is wherever you are, whether it be freezing cold, boiling hot, or simply normal, it can always be captured beautifully with a camera; so what are you waiting for?

Spring

This weekend’s photo focus, centered on taking that are backlit by skylines. These can create some unique photographs where timing and exposure are everything.

…though it’s hard with this one to come up with a really unique photograph, so easy to come up with boring silhouette shots, I always try and strive for something totally unique in the detail…

To be highlighted in a a future article, this comes on the heals of another amazing Creative Live series. The work that Zack Arias, Chase Jarvis and many others is really providing a great educational environment for photogs on any level. The fact that these are live, broadcast thru USTREAM, and they are taking your questions thru Twitter make the whole process that much more enjoyable. If you haven’t taken a look at what they are doing I suggest you get off you duff and do so.

Camera+ App

If you own an iPhone, you owe it to yourself to get this application. I downloaded it the other day, and now use it as my primary camera taking app. Its so good that I wish Apple would buy them or hire them to redesign their internal application.

Podcast of the Week: TWIP # 152

TWIP takes the time for this week discussing the controversies popping up in several states regarding photographers and photographing in public places. One of the more interesting parts is when they discuss having to get permission from ALL parties involved or you can be sued. This also happened to be recorded during the iPhone 4 announcement was being made, which leads to them sharing their thoughts on how this may influence photographers.
