App of the Week: PhotoPad by Zagg

Another iPad app, this one allows editing on a whole different level (cropping, fill, rotation, filter) shows what the iPad is on the cusp of as far as digital editing can do. Now if Adobe will wake up and do Photoshop for the iPad.

Photog of the Week: Steve McCurry

I happened upon Steve’s work after checking out the PetaPixel article above. His work is great. I sat for  a half hour going through his work, his attention to grabbing the reality of people and conveying that put a smile on my face. The color in his work is truly phenomenal, going to the ends of the earth to capture people in their own environment and documenting it for us to see.

The iPhone Fashion Shoot By Lee Morris

In what turned out to be one of the most controversial posts this week, the guys at Fstoppers.com posted a vid of a Fashion Shoot shot on an iPhone. The controversy cropped up when the behind the scenes video showed them using lots of light and sending the photos off to a post-production house for touch-up. I think they did great for what they had, and that the controversy was just plain crazy. A lot of photographers (especially in the Fashion industry) now a days use post processing of some sort. A look at what the Economist did to a picture of Obama surveying the oil spill. Not good.

App of the Week: FlickStackr for iPad, iPod & iPhone

A great little program for both iPad and iPhone that allow you to access your complete FLickr account, and your contacts, plus allows browsing of groups/pools. The app is jammed with super nice features, but as a photog, I like having the ability to whip out my photos anywhere, and this app allows me to complete that task.

Diptic App for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch

A little gem, that with some more work and time can be a great app. In short it allows you to combine multiple photos create Diptychs, Triptychs directly from your iPhone, or iPad

I’m a big bike guy, and I am constantly looking at their photography in every magazine I read. They make great art, out of great art. This weekend’s photo focus, centered on taking that are backlit by skylines. These can create some unique photographs where timing and exposure are everything.

…though it’s hard with this one to come up with a really unique photograph, so easy to come up with boring silhouette shots, I always try and strive for something totally unique in the detail…

If you haven’t taken a look at what they are doing I suggest you get off you duff and do so.

Camera+ App

If you own an iPhone, you owe it to yourself to get this application. I downloaded it the other day, and now use it as my primary camera taking app. Its so good that I wish Apple would buy them or hire them to redesign their internal application.

TWIP takes the time for this week discussing the controversies popping up in several states regarding photographers and photographing in public places. One of the more interesting parts is when they discuss having to get permission from ALL parties involved or you can be sued. This also happened to be recorded during the iPhone 4 announcement was being made, which leads to them sharing their thoughts on how this may influence photographers.
