Indie Spotlight: Bret Edge

This month we’re featuring Bret Edge.

Bret Edge is a husband, father, brother, friend and occasional enemy who for the last 11 years has also been a nature and adventure photographer. A visit in 1999 to an exhibition of photographs by David Muench, Jack Dykinga and Ansel Adams inspired him to dedicate the time and energy required to learn the art of photography. Entirely self-taught, Bret spent the first couple of years voraciously reading how-to books and using every hour of weekends and vacations to practice his new hobby.

Bret is passionate about photographing intimate landscapes.  He considers Eliot Porter, Galen Rowell, Tyler Stableford and William Neill as significant influences in his own recent work. He finds inspiration everywhere outside, in nature, where the simple play of light and shadow or sensuous patterns of aspen trunks in a grove can spark a creative fire. He feels most alive and free when hiking, backpacking or canyoneering through a wild landscape.

Bret lives in Moab, Utah with his wife and favorite model Melissa, his son Jackson and the two All-Terrain Pugs, Bierstadt and Petunia.
