Letter From the Editor – Hail to the Chief

Passing The Torch

Hello, World.

So, this is it, huh? This is what it feels like to be Editor-in-Chief. I always pictured there would be a throne, a crown, and doves flying as I walked down a red carpet to be knighted by the Queen, but it’s more like those bumper stickers that read, “I went to ___ and all I got was this bumper sticker.”

But, alas, here we are, bumper-sticker-in-hand. I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was a bit nervous in taking on an entire publication all by myself, but I had the fortune of working under Ron, the previous Editor-in-Chief, all of this time, and there honestly couldn’t have been a better person to learn from. I had been reading Fuel Your Photography for quiet some time before I started writing and got to work under Ron, who has done a great job in toning down some of my ramblings. I’m glad to have been under his wing for these past few months, learning a lot and developing my style into something legible. Seeing the inner workings of a publication has been thrilling, to say the least, and combining my love for writing with my passion for photography only seems like this will be a great fit.

I remember all of the English classes I attended during middle- and high school, where the teachers absolutely despised my writing and told me I had no clue what I was doing as I struggled to maintain a passing grade (I’m not making that up). I hated English classes, but I loved to write, so I always wrote for myself and developed my own style out of my propensity to be rebellious and stick it to the man. I would get to college and discover that my writing was adored by my professors, which only made me laugh at how hated I was by my previous teachers as I was passing writing and literary classes with flying colors. I’ve always been true to my style, so it’s going to be interesting to see how this will all play out as I leave my mark in my take over of FYP.

And to all my past English teachers from grade school: In your FACE! I’m an Editor now! Didn’t think that would ever happen, huh? Booyakasha.

I’ve got a lot in store for my hostile takeover peaceful transition from one regime to the next. A ton of ideas are swirling in my head as I try to figure out exactly which direction I want to choose (within the diameters of the higher-ups, of course… Hi, Joshua and Adelle!), but needless to say, the plan is to turn Fuel Your Photography into the destination for your photography needs. I want to make this site break the glass ceiling and outshine other photography sites (I’m calling you out, Photofocus and Digital Photography School!). If you haven’t noticed, I have a very dry and sarcastic sense of humor, but am way too fun loving to be all serious face 24/7. Noting that, I want this site to be fun, but informative, while maintaining the prestige that you have already gotten to know and love, and that’s totally doable, right?

So, if you’re ready, this is going to be one helluva ride, and I look forward to seeing where this journey takes all of us!

Until next time,

- Patrick
